Meet the Team

Diverse experience. Specialized knowledge. Dedication. And a strong sense of responsibility to use our knowledge to help make people and property safer.

That’s what we bring to every job, whether it’s a CPR class for your neighborhood group or a fire investigation for a multimillion-dollar insurance claim.

Our team has an impressively broad range of experience. In the public sector, we’ve worked in law enforcement, firefighting, and even bomb squads – with experience at the federal, state and local levels. For the private sector, our certified fire investigators can respond quickly to investigate any type of fire or explosion.

Tom Bensen
CFI, CFI-I, CFEI, CVFI

Fire & Explosion Origin & Cause Investigator / Safety Consultant

Every day is different in Tom’s world, and that’s what he enjoys most about his work.

As the principal fire and explosion investigator at Bensen Fire & Safety Consulting, there is no “typical day” for Tom – he’s usually on the go investigating fire scenes, and is also the main point of contact for Bensen’s clients and prospective clients (so, when you call us, you’ll more than likely reach Tom directly).

Tom is trusted by insurers, legal professionals, and manufacturers to deliver timely and detailed investigations and litigation support. As a natural communicator and problem-solver, he believes that one of the most important parts of his job is to keep you informed throughout the process and to provide information that is accurate, understandable, and useful.

Tom also uses his vast knowledge to benefit the industry as a whole. He has worked with the National Fire Protection Association to write their standards for installation of stationary energy storage systems, and is one of the region’s top experts on lithium batteries and energy storage systems.

From a young age, Tom has been intrigued by the science behind fires and explosions. This curiosity led him to major in Fire Protection Safety Engineering Technology at Oklahoma State University, and it also drives him to continually seek more knowledge and education. Among Tom’s many certifications, a few stand out: he is a Certified Fire Investigator by the IAAI, a Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator by the NAFI, and a certified vehicle fire investigator. Tom is currently still active as a certified firefighter, fire instructor, and peace officer.
